Bentley

Carloanshub » Cars » Car Manufacturers » Bentley
Bentley or Bentley Motors Limited is a British car manufacturer. It produces Grand Tourers and luxury automobiles. Walter Owen Bentley launched it on the 18th of January in 1919. He was earlier popular for the First World War’s rotary aero-engines, the most known of which was the Bentley BR1. The owner of Bentley has been the Volkswagen Group since 1998.
Some rich British enthusiasts of cars, who were popular as “Bentley Boys”, retained the name of Bentley as the producer of high performance cars. In 1931 Rolls-Royce took over Bentley in order to make its brand almost similar to the Rolls-Royce only the typical grille was absent. The cars of this brand had a more affordable price tag. Bentley once again emerged as an independent line of high performance cars. The most famous model in the Rolls-Royce era was the Bentley Continental. It was marketed in different forms between 1952, 1965 and 1962. Production of Bentley Continental stopped in 2003. The factory of Bentley in Cheshire’s Crewe is popular even today here as “Royce’s”.

Volkswagen bought Bentley Motors and Rolls-Royce in 1998 from Vickers at 430 million British pounds after it bid against the Bavarian Motor Works or BMW. It had shortly begun delivering parts for a new car range, particularly the V12 engines and V8 engines. In the deal, the name of Rolls-Royce was excluded but its license was given to BMW by the aero engine company of Rolls-Royce.

Volkswagen and BMW entered into an agreement according to which Volkswagen would be the manufacturer of the cars of Rolls-Royce and Bentley till the last of 2002. At that point, the right of producing Rolls-Royce cars would be given to only BMW.

Bentley offered Queen Elizabeth II in 2002 with a State Limousine formally for its Golden Jubilee celebration. Bentley Azure, the 2-door convertible of Bentley, stopped its production in 2003. It launched a bigger luxury coupe, the latest Bentley Continental GT. This car runs on a W-12 engine, which is a Volkswagen’s adaptation.

After the successful introduction of the Flying Spur, GTC and Continental GT, the production of a new iconic model for substituting Arnage has been the most important function of Bentley. A latest form of Arnage would perhaps be built on a chassis that is meant for the future Audi A8. In 2008 as well as in 2009, the Flying Spur and the Continental GTC are anticipated to be changed just like the Continental GT.
