The top Chevrolet models that are marketed in the United States include Impala – the best-selling automobile in this country and the pickup truck of Silverado – the second top-selling car.
Chevrolet was launched jointly by William C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet, a car racer born in Switzerland’s La Chaux De Fonds on the 25th of December in 1878. In 1910 William Durant was sacked out from General Motors. He thus wished to utilize the designs of Louis Chevrolet for recreating his own image. Durant had appointed Chevrolet earlier for driving Buicks in races organized for the promotion of cars.
The “bowtie” emblem of Chevrolet was used in 1913 for the first time. The design of this symbol is considered to be inspired by the wallpaper at a French hotel that Durant visited. The Swiss cross is also believed to be the inspiration for the design of this logo.
Durant visited Toronto in 1915 for establishing the potentiality of the arrangement of facilities for car manufacturing in Canada. After he met “Colonel Sam” McLaughlin, the Chevrolet Motor Car Company was decided to be established in Canada for the production of Chevrolet cars. “Colonel Sam” McLaughlin was the owner of the Canadian McLaughlin Motor Car Company. General Motors bought these two car manufacturing companies after three years and renamed them as General Motors of Canada Ltd.
Durant acquired most of the shares of General Motors after Chevrolet made profits by 1916. Durant became the president of this conglomeration after he bought his shares in 1917, whereas Chevrolet became an independent part of General Motors. Chevrolet launched the Model D V-8 series during the 1918 model year. The best models of Chevrolet comprise Equinox, Cobalt, Uplander, Captiva, Corvette and Impala.
At present Chevrolet is restructured in the North American continent like the other car brands of General Motors. The production of the private luxury coupe of Monte Carlo, despite its popularity since its launching in 1970, was interrupted towards the end of the model year of 2007.
