Dodge is an automobile brand of trucks and cars that is based in the United States and is marketed in more than 60 countries and regions all over the world by Chrysler LLC. In 1900 Dodge was established as the renowned Dodge Brothers Company for supplying assemblies and automobile parts for the thriving auto industry of Detroit.
In 1914 Dodge started to create its cars independently and this brand was acquired in 1928 by Chrysler Corporation.

It was also involved in the short 1998-2007 merger of DaimlerChrysler. At present Dodge forms the basis of the recent Chrysler LLC controlled by the Cerberus Capital Management.
Following the introduction of the Dodge Brothers Company in 1900 by John Dodge and Horace Dodge, the company immediately started manufacturing parts of the chassis and engine for the leading car companies of Detroit. The Dodge Brothers were very much successful in this area but they still aspired for more growth and success. Thus they produced the 4-cylinder Dodge Model 30 by the year 1914. By 1916 this model took the Dodge cars to the second leading position in the US sales.
After the death of the Dodge brothers their widows started running the company and made Frederick Haynes the president of the Dodge Brothers Company. But the company gradually fell from its position and was acquired by the Dillon, Read and Company in 1925 from the widows. E.G. Wilmer was placed immediately by the company as one of the employees. The new line of six-cylinder Senior was introduced in 1927 and the old 4-cylinder line continued to be produced. The renowned Fast Four line was renamed and then dismissed for the introduction of the two six-cylinder models in 1928.
The head of the newly-established Chrysler Corporation was Walter P. Chrysler, who thought of buying Dodge two years before and meanwhile manufactured his own automobile brand of DeSoto for challenging the new models of Dodge in the market of affordable cars. Thirteen models and two lines comprised the lineup of Dodge for the initial half of 1930. Later in that same year Dodge improved a bit more with the inclusion of an 8-cylinder line for balancing the 6-cylinder Senior.
In 1999 the merger of the Daimler-Benz AG with the Chrysler Corporation formed DaimlerChrysler. Plymouth, the sister brand of Dodge was selected as the tool for the rationalization of Chrysler’s lineup. Dodge is presently marketed across several countries in the world. 1.3 million Dodge cars were purchased in the international market in 2007.
