Pegaso

The Pegaso is the name for Spanish brand of buses, trucks, tractors and armored vehicles and also impressive sport cars. The Enasa was parent company and Pegaso was designed in the year 1946 based on the old Hispano-Suiza factory. Under the inspection of the famous automobile engineer Wilfredo Ricart this vintage car was created. The main plants of Pegaso were situated in Madrid, Valladolid and Barcelona.
The state-owned company, Enasa, had its main business interest in the truck and bus market. It became one of the leading industrial vehicles makers in Europe. The most important export activity both to Europe and Latin America. The Benelux, Venezuela and Cuba were Pegaso biggest markets, while a fairly large supply of contract tactical trucks of the Egyptian Army was signed in late 1970s.

By the year 1946 and 1990 Pegaso manufactured nearly 350,000 plus units. The yearly production touched 26,000 plus in 1974. The Pegaso was built about a hundred high end Z-102 sports cars in the 1950s. These vintage cars were much ahead of its time, as they featured all wheel independent suspension, a five-speed gearbox, and the customers were offered with the choice of Saoutchik, Touring or Enasa's own luxury bodies.

In the year 1954 the old Pegaso Diesel engine was raised to 100 kW, other Ricart's masterpiece, the Pegaso Z-207 truck, was ready to enter mass production, as it actually was from 1955 to 1959. It featured a splendid V6 engine and an unforgettable corrugated-sheet cab, which was also used in other Pegaso truck models of the 1960s and '70s resembling the Spanish landscape.

The most technically advanced was the Pegaso Z-403 Monocasco which was a two-level monocoque or chassis less coach, fitted with the 93 kW diesel engine mounted amid ships and built in the year 1951 and 1957. Along all these years Pegaso was produced with more conventional Z-404 coach or urban bus anatomy, that used to receive a striking body by Seida of Bilbao and the Z-501 trolleybus. This featured electric equipment by Cenemesa.

The Pegaso 3560 BMR is a 6x6 wheeled armored personnel carrier manufactured in Spain by Enasa in the year 1979. It has a Pegaso 9157/8 306 hp diesel engine, automatic gearbox, torque converter, independent suspension in all six wheels and it was able to start inside water and be air borne. It received various kind of weapons and there is also a field ambulance version. Two hydro jets for displacement in water were an optional equipment. The armies of Saudi Arabian, Egyptian, Spanish ,Moroccan, Mexico use Pegaso BMRs.
