The Reliant cars company was established in the year 1935 by Tom Williams. Since then Reliant cars have produced many vehicles over the years, both three and four wheelers. The Reliant cars first got into the sports car business as the result of conglomeration with Israeli company Auto cars. The car was manufactured on the basis of foundation by Austin 7 or 8 chassis with an Ashley GT body shell which was assembled by Reliant cars. It was introduced in the market as the Sabra Sport in the
USA. The Reliant cars especially made Sabre for the UK markets.

In fact the origin of the company dates back to 1935. T.L. Williams, an engineer by profession, started the company up at his home town in Tamworth and constructed three wheeler vehicles. The first standardized van was launched on 1st January 1935. The vans were sold well and Reliant cars was inspired to produce their own 747cc side valve engine. The outbreak of World War Two suppressed its growth but their expertise in engineering was used during the war times.
The things took into shape again after 1945, with the factory at Tamworth growing as demand increased for strikingly unconventional three wheelers. It was in the year 1953 before the first passenger car appeared. This was named “the Regal”. This was a car made of an aluminum alloy body, which fitted on the top of a wooden frame. It had a wheel short of convention.
By the year 1956 that Reliant cars were manufactured with fibers made of glass. A skill which was used to have a firm base for years to come. This kind of expertise further facilitated to increase sales in export markets and in particular to manufacture the 'Anadol'. These Reliant cars were more like a tablet for headache, this car also had an in built saloon. It was built in Turkey, and over 100,000 Anadols were sold that year.
The manufactures of Reliant have been very innovative in naming their cars. The year 1965 saw the introduction of the four wheeled 'Rebel' which was renamed the 'Kitten' ten years later. The Kitten was even got the license for manufacture in India. These two cars were simply the versions of four wheelers of the three wheeled cars using the same concept of drive train. The Kitten was again succeeded by the 'Fox' where utility vehicle remained in production till the year 1991.
The famous Robin three wheeler made an entry in to the automobile market in the year 1972 with an array of variations introduced ten years later with two and three door versions and a van. The real innovation came into scene when there was a an attempt to produce a GT car which had high performance with the practicality of an estate car. After much efforts they were successful in designing an estate car that did not exactly look like an estate. The GTE was bold creation which made
huge profits. It was also the first car with split and foldable rear seats, spacious flat luggage or in simple words had a bed inside.
These vintage cars were fitted with a three litre Ford engine and later with the 2.8 V6, the car had a smart look, making it one of the fast, stylish and altogether an unique car. The car underwent a renovation in 1975 after which 9,000 cars had been produced which were much a wider, longer with a new chassis. The production went high in the year 1978 when fifty cars per week were being produced. The Scimitar GTC was introduced into the market providing open top motoring for Scimitar fans. Scimitar cars were stopped manufacturing in 1986.
Recently rumors have been around that Reliant are working on a new sports car. They have already chalked out the design and expertise for engineering the parts and produce some good cars. They are paying intricate details to the goods which will be used in styling the product and a decent name for the new car.
