Rover was a car manufacturer of Britain, which was founded in Coventry. After the Second World War it shifted to Solihull and later was located at the old plant of Austin Longbridge as a car brand in Birmingham. It was even a division of the MG Rover Group and BMW in the current years. In 2005 April production of Rover was put to a stop when the company got bankrupted.

The Ninja Automobile Group took over the physical assets of Rover on the month of July in 2005 despite the ownership of its intellectual property by SAIC. It had plans to reestablish its functions in Longbridge and China in 2007. Ford purchased the rights of using the name Rover on the 18th of September in 2006 for approximately 6 million dollars from Bavarian Motor Works. Ford got an opportunity of buying Rover due to its take over of Land Rover in 2000 from BMW. During the 1960s Rover was one of the favorite cars among the masses, particularly in Britain.
1950s and 1960s were the most successful years for Rover as Land Rover was the most profit making part of the company during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The 3.5L aluminum V8 was also featured at the saloons of P5 and P6. The first Rover that was produced was a Starley & Sutton Co’s tricycle. It was manufactured in England’s Coventry in 1883. It was established in 1878 by William Sutton and John Kemp Starley. Starley had worked earlier with James Starley, his uncle. James Starley started his career by producing sewing machines and in 1869 changed to bicycles.
Rover was made J.K. Starley & Co Ltd in 1889 and Rover Cycle Company Ltd in the closing years of the 1890s. The Rover Company started manufacturing cars after the demise of Starley with the introduction of Rover Eight, a two-seater vehicle designed by Edmund Lewis, a former employee of the Daimler Motor Company. Rover also produced motorcycles during the World War I. The first car run by the Rover company was an engine with gas turbine. It was introduced by Maurice Wilks, Chief Engineer of Rover and F. R. Bell, the designer, in 1950.
The best models of Rover comprise the Rover 8 (1904-1912), Rover 6 (1906-1910), Rover 10 (1927-1947), Rover 25 (1999-2005), Rover 200(1984-1999), Rover Meteor
(1930-1934) and Maestro (1989-1994).
