A sedan car or saloon car is a type of passenger car. This type of car is very common among the existing automobiles in the market. Basically sedan car is one of the most commonly used passenger car. Generally, in this kind of car, the seats are arranged in two rows. There is also enough room for the passengers to seat comfortably. There is a rear compartment for the adult passengers too. Sedan also comes with a trunk or boot, placed at the rear for taking the luggage. However, some of these cars have engines at the rear end too.
Types of Sedan

Though Sedan body is one of the most common type of car body, there are several variations in the body style. The different versions or types of sedan include:

Notchback sedans

Notchback sedan is a kind of sedan car that can be called three box sedan. The entire car can be divided into three boxes. The front box consists of the engine, the middle box is for the passenger volume, while the rear box is for the cargo. This type of sedan is a popular form of passenger vehicles.

Fastback sedan

The fastback sedan can be called a two box sedan. The design of this car has been chosen to give the car the advantage of aerodynamics. Off late, this type of car body is gaining popularity. The automakers also prefer this model over the traditional three box style of notchback model.

Two door sedan

The two door sedan cars are also known as coupe. These type of cars have a B-pillar between the front window and the rear window. This feature distinguishes this kind of sedan from the other kind of sedans. Some well known two door sedans are Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 'Mercedes Benz CL-Class coupes' etc.

Hardtop Sedan

The most distinctive feature of the hardtop sedan is the frameless glasses, that are used in the car doors. The hardtop sedans do not have any kind of B-Pillar. The entire design of the car is quite spacious. This particular style of cars were very popular among the luxury sedans in the 1990s.

Hatchback Sedan

The hatchback sedan is also known as Lift back sedan. The entire back of Hatchback sedan has a raised look. This distinguishes hatchback sedan from other fastback cars.

Chauffeured sedan

The chauffeured sedan is also known as chauffeured limousine sedan. The luxurious business passenger cars fall under this category. The major names under this category includes Limousine, Lincoln town car, Cadillac and Mercedes.
